Aretha Adams
Aretha Adams was appointed City Manager of Murphy on February 5, 2024. As the Chief Administrative Officer for the City, Ms. Adams is responsible for managing all administrative and operational aspects of the City while also providing executive advice to the City Council on municipal policies and strategy.
Ms. Adams brings more than 18 years of municipal management experience, including most recently serving as City Manager of Heath, Texas and Town Manager of Town of Sykesville, Maryland. Prior to her tenure in Sykesville, she served in executive management with the cities of Corinth, Lancaster and McKinney. While most of her professional career has been in the Metroplex, she has also held municipal government roles in Florida, Washington, DC, and California.
Ms. Adams is an active member of the Texas City Management Association (TCMA), the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA), and the International City County Management Association (ICMA). She is also a credentialed manager through the ICMA.
A native of Florida, Ms. Adams earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where she majored in Political Science. She also has a Master of Public Administration degree from the School of Public Affairs at the American University in Washington, DC.
Ms. Adams, along with her husband, Damien, have five children and live in Collin County. They enjoy attending community events, exploring the world through travel, and are avid patrons of the performing Arts.
Jared Mayfield
Jared Mayfield was named Assistant City Manager in April 2024. He assists the City Manager in developing, planning, and implementing Murphy’s goals and objectives by providing high level administrative direction to assigned departments. Previously, Mayfield served as the Director of Community and Economic Development for the City of Murphy. Prior to serving the City of Murphy, he also served as the Director of Development Services for the City of Victoria.
Mr. Mayfield earned a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Urban Planning, both from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He has been certified with the American Institute of Certified Planners since 1999. He is a member of the American Planning Association and the Congress for New Urbanism.
