Permit Applications

The City of Murphy Customer Service Center is currently receiving a high number of permit submittals associated with the storm event that occurred earlier this year. Please know that we are doing everything possible to issue permits as quickly as possible. Please allow 4 business days for initial response on all permits. It is our intention to have all permits issued within a period of 14 business days.  

Energy System Update

For a private home installation of generators or energy storage systems, the City of Murphy is seeking to ensure compliance with new laws regarding the inspection of these systems. In accordance with the Texas Senate Bills 1202 and 1252 which are effective as of September 1, 2025, the city has updated our procedures for these permits. Inspections called in before 2 p.m. will go out the next business day, excluding weekends and holidays.

If cancelling an inspection you must call 972-468-4100 before 9 a.m. and speak to a live person. Any cancellations left on the voicemail will still go out for inspection but could result in fees being charged.

Please include the following information when calling for an inspection:

  • Builder’s name
  • Contact person name and phone number
  • Inspection address
  • Permit #
  • Subdivision Name
  • Inspection requested

The site is assumed ready for inspection at the time of your inspection request unless otherwise noted. Please specify if you are requesting a re-inspection when calling. Inspections will not be made when work is in progress. The inspection request line is accessible 24 hours a day by calling 972-468-4050. The inspection line is dedicated solely for inspection requests, all other calls should be made to Customer Service at 972-468-4100.
