Great Murphy Cleanup event set for Saturday, April 22
Volunteers will help beautify Timbers Nature Preserve
MURPHY (March 13, 2023) Residents who are committed to maintaining a cleaner planet, who are environmentally conscious, and who enjoy being outdoors can express each of these on Saturday, April 22 during the Great Murphy Cleanup.
This year, the cleanup emphasis will be on the Timbers Nature Preserve, which is among the City’s most popular areas for urban hiking, casual walks, informal ball games, picnics, cookouts, and kiddie playtime. The Timbers Nature Preserve is located at 324 Pine Top Drive.
The Great Murphy Cleanup starts at 9 a.m. with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. The activity is scheduled to end at 11 a.m. The cleanup drive is sponsored by the City of Murphy and the Keep Murphy Beautiful campaign.
“The Great Murphy Cleanup has always been a very popular event, with lots of great volunteers,” says Greg Dunn, Recreation Specialist and member of Keep Murphy Beautiful. “Keeping our parks clean and beautiful benefits everyone.”
Registration is required and volunteers may register by visiting https://secure.rec1.com/tx/murphy-tx and clicking on the Volunteer Opportunities tab. Residents with existing accounts may continue with the registration, while those without an account may establish one at no cost.
Volunteers under 18 years of age must present a signed waiver from a parent or guardian. Waivers are available at the Murphy Community Center, 205 North Murphy Road, or by contacting Dunn at gdunn@murphytx.org.
City officials can provide documentation that will satisfy community service hours for those seeking school or organization credit.
