[ARCHIVED] Sidewalk construction to close one lane of S. Murphy Rd.

Sidewalk construction temporarily closes curbside lane

One block of S. Murphy Rd. at FM 544 to close intermittently

MURPHY (August 17, 2022) Intermittent closure of the curbside traffic lane of South Murphy Road from FM 544 southward for about one block will begin on Monday, Aug. 22 and end, weather permitting, on Friday, Sept. 9 or sooner.

Cause of the closure is the construction of a new sidewalk along the approximately one-block stretch, part of the recently approved sidewalk connectivity project. The lane will be blocked only while workers are present.

“Motorists turning south on South Murphy Road from either direction of FM 544 must be especially cognizant of the lane blockage and move through the intersection with extreme caution,” says Wade Williams, City of Murphy’s Public Works Superintendent.

Customers of the Starbuck’s Coffee Shop as well as those of the various businesses located within the adjacent shopping center should proceed with caution, as the lane closure may affect the entry driveways.

Drivers who use these lanes to get to the businesses behind the affected shopping center should likewise travel with care.

The sidewalk connectivity project is designed to ease foot traffic and provide urban trails in specific areas around the city. Individual sidewalk segments are being constructed or reconstructed as stand-alone projects.

As a usual precaution through construction areas, drivers are asked to exercise care in entering and exiting the affected areas and watch for workers and equipment. Courtesy and consideration of other drivers is highly advised.

Questions and comments may be directed to Public Services Executive Administrative Assistant Bryce Gullatt at or by calling 972-468-4378.
