Murphy’s Sounds at Sundown widens musical offerings

Concert series set for each Friday evening in June

MURPHY (May 11, 2022) Expanding its musical offerings to reach ever larger audiences, Murphy’s Sounds at Sundown concert series returns each Friday evening in June with a diverse lineup of musical acts, alongside the return of one of the community’s favorite party bands.

Set in the acoustically engineered Central Park amphitheater, 550 North Murphy Road, the free series presents a wide array of genres, including rock, pop, party, and Tejano, according to Special Events Coordinator Ashley Hudson.

“Musical tastes vary in our highly diverse community, and in response we’ve tried to reach as many of our population groups as possible,” she said. “Offering a variety of musical acts allows us to reach a wider swath of our community.”

Kicking off the series on June 3 is Metal Shop, a band that specializes in rock music from the legendary 1980s. Residents will relive that incredibly prolific era as the band revives some of the best head-bopping tunes of that period.

On June 10, Reputation takes the stage, providing music that fans of Taylor Swift will find unforgettable. The earthy, emotion-filled lyrics of the band’s offerings will surely bring smiles to audience members as they join in singing right along.

Everyone’s favorite party band, Emerald City Band, hits the stage on June 17 with their usual high-level, unmistakable flair. The unique arrangements, brassy accompaniment, and stirring vocals will undoubtedly bring attendees out of their seats to dance to the thriving beat.

Closing the series this year on June 24 is the CTS Band, a new addition to the lineup. The band is a tribute to the Queen of Tejano and Latin music. The band, playing songs in Spanish, honors the late Tejano star with a love-filled homage.

Pre-concert activities include face painting and the splash pad, concluding when the concerts begin at 8 p.m. The food truck court will host a variety of vendors every concert for attendees to enjoy throughout the events. As always, blankets, folding lawn chairs, seat pads, and insect repellant are encouraged. Free parking is available at the Murphy PSA lot and other City Hall spaces. Glass containers on the premises are not allowed.

Each concert is sponsored by Glazer Family Dentistry and Countryside Smiles, local businesses that consistently demonstrate their commitment to making Murphy an exceptional community.

Questions on this and other special events put on by the City of Murphy can be directed to Murphy Recreation Department at (972) 468-4444 or via email at recinfo@murphytx.org
