Moonlight Movie series returns to Murphy Central Park
MURPHY (March 23, 2022) As area residents gradually return to some semblance of normalcy, one of the City’s most popular family series, Moonlight Movies, returns for the spring season with three Friday night features in April and May.
The first is set for Friday, April 8 at the amphitheater of Murphy’s Central Park, 550 North Murphy Road, adjacent to Murphy PSA. The evening’s festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk, usually around 8:30 p.m.
The movie is free and includes free popcorn, drinks, and kid’s crafts. Face painting will be available as time permits and is offered on a first-come first-served basis. Free parking is available at the various City Hall lots and the PSA parking area.
The April 8 movie presentation is “Paw Patrol: The Movie” and includes a special guest who will interact with movie-goers. ROCKY, among the main Paw Patrol characters, will be in attendance and has indicated his excitement at meeting Murphy youngsters.
On Friday, April 22, Disney’s “Encanto” will be the feature. The movie’s breakaway hit tune “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” will surely excite the attendees, who are encouraged to sing along.
The series ends on May 20 with the presentation of “Raya and the Last Dragon” also from Disney. The film depicts a warrior princess seeking the fabled last dragon, with hopes of restoring the dragon gem that would bring back her father.
All three movies will be presented at the same location, and as usual, officials encourage movie-goers to arrive early, stake out their preferred location and take advantage of the evenings’ usually pleasant temperatures.
Lawn chairs, blankets, stadium seats, and seating pads are highly encouraged along with bug spray and toys for toddlers and babies. Families are also urged to visit one of the many Murphy restaurants, take their food to go, and enjoy a picnic dinner on the amphitheater grounds. The City kindly asks that all trash be placed in the appropriate receptacles.
Kona Ice will have a vendor truck at the event and will be selling their treats. Prices for their treats vary, and unlike previously, there will not be an ATM onsite. Kona Ice, however, accepts credit or debit cards for purchases.
If inclement weather or the threat of inclement weather should be present, any venue changes, postponements, or cancelations will be announced on the City of Murphy Parks and Recreation Facebook page. Residents are encouraged to become accustomed to checking it regularly.
