Water main installation may cause minor detouring
Work on both North Murphy Road and South Murphy Road ongoing
MURPHY (January 13, 2020) Drivers along a section of North Murphy Road and a section of South Murphy Road should be aware of construction along the edge of the thoroughfares over the next four months, exercising caution when traveling through the affected areas.
The City of Murphy has extended a contract for the excavation, installation, and remediation of 4,000 feet of 8-inch water mains, 2,500 feet on South Murphy Road and 1,500 feet on North Murphy Road. Construction is under the auspices of Barclay Premier Utility Services.
On South Murphy Road, the work will occur on the northbound curbside lane starting at the intersection with Moonlight Dr. and ending at the intersection with Ridgeview Dr.
The North Murphy Road portion extends on the road’s southbound curbside lane between the intersection with Tom Clevenger Dr. and the intersection with Glen Ridge Dr.
Lanes on both of these busy roads will be cordoned off and closed periodically to ensure the safety of both the personnel working on the site, as well as to warn drivers of the potential hazards of an open trench.
Significantly, some of the involved intersections may be affected as well, limiting access to North and South Murphy Roads and requiring drivers to find alternate routes to the two.
The project is required to replace critically important water mains for the City’s water distribution system, ensuring that the system is reliable, and residents continue to receive uninterrupted water service.
Barring any major delays or sustained inclement weather, the project is expected to be completed by the end of April.
