Annual kid toy drive scheduled by Murphy Fire Rescue
New, unwrapped toys accepted starting Nov. 18
MURPHY (November 8, 2019) Once again, kids served by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County will be the recipients of the generosity of Murphy residents as the Murphy Fire Department is hosting its annual toy drive.
Starting on Monday, Nov. 18 and continuing through Monday, Dec. 9, new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls will be collected by the members of the department. Toys can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. during this period by visiting the Fire Station, 206 North Murphy Road.
In what has become a favorite tradition, on Monday, Dec. 2, toy donors can drive through the Fire Station, hand off their toys and get a special thank you candy cane. Donors will then proceed out of the rear of the Fire Station, entering onto Tom Clevenger Drive and back onto North Murphy Road.
The drive-through begins at 5:30 p.m. and the last car will be accommodated at 8 p.m.
Drivers coming to the toy drop-off in a southerly direction on North Murphy Road should turn into either the entrance to City Hall or the Murphy Community Center and drive on the northbound lane to enter the station. Caution is always encouraged for drivers as North Murphy Road can become congested during this period.
Brightly colored Christmas lights will be positioned to assist drivers enter the correct bay.
The Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County began in Plano in 1992, serving only about 10 percent of the children in the community victimized by abuse or neglect.
As the population of Collin County exploded, so has the number of alleged victims. As a result, there was an increased demand for these types of services. The Center occupied its current location on Los Rios Boulevard in 1999, where the organization now offers services to 100 percent of children in need, free of charge, with no waiting list.
Since opening its doors, Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County has served more than 65,000 children and family members impacted by abuse.
