Fire Rescue sets Open House for Saturday, October 19
MURPHY (October 4, 2019) Capping off the annual celebration of Fire Prevention Week, this year set for Oct. 6 to 12, Murphy Fire Rescue will host their annual Open House on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Fire Station, 206 North Murphy Road.
The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m. Parking is available at the various City Hall lots on the municipal campus.
Special emphasis this year will be encouraging families to put together a plan that adults and children can use when escaping a burning structure and practicing that escape plan. The year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week is “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape, Plan and Practice Your Escape.”
Attending the free Open House event has become a family tradition for many Murphy households, some who have faithfully been part of the event for several years in a row.
A favorite feature of most participants are the live demonstrations of the various firefighting and life-saving activities that firefighters and paramedics undertake on a daily basis. Other attendees enjoy taking tours of the Fire Station, learning how firefighters spend their days. Still others find the Careflite helicopter to be the highlight of their visit.
The Open House will also include hot dogs, grilled on-site, bags of chips, popcorn, and bottled water for all participants. The lunch and snacks are perfect for enjoying while watching the fire safety movies presented throughout the event.
Younger children will be invited to play in the bounce house shaped like a fire truck, and kids of all ages will be challenged to master the new Junior Firefighter Obstacle Course.
As always, Sparky the Fire Dog will make an appearance greeting attendees and posing for photographs.
Further information on the Open House, or on any aspect of fire safety, can be obtained by calling the Fire Department at (972) 468-4300.
