Murphy participates in Great Texas Warrant Roundup
MURPHY (February 15, 2019) The Murphy Police Department and Municipal Court will once again participate in the upcoming Great Texas Warrant Roundup and join more than 300 law enforcement agencies statewide in a concentrated effort to resolve outstanding warrants and unpaid traffic and non-traffic violations.
“The Great Texas Warrant Roundup is really divided into two phases,” says Patti Towne, Murphy Municipal Court Administrator. “The first phase of the Warrant Roundup, which begins Saturday, February 23 and ends Friday, March 8, is considered an amnesty period and consists of a notification period that includes warrant calls and mailed notifications.”
The two-week amnesty period allows individuals with outstanding warrants to voluntarily appear at the Murphy Municipal Court to resolve their cases without fear of arrest.
“We want to encourage individuals who have outstanding warrants or violations to come in now and make arrangements for payment. No one will be arrested if they voluntarily appear at the Court to resolve their outstanding cases,” said Presiding Murphy Municipal Court Judge Natalie Banuelos.
After the two-week amnesty period, the second phase begins Saturday, March 9 and ends Saturday, March 16. This is the enforcement period, or official arrest (Roundup) period. During this time, warrant service efforts are intensified, and individuals may be arrested at home, work and around town and brought to jail or to the court to address the outstanding warrants before the Municipal Court Judge.
“Don’t risk being arrested once the Warrant Roundup starts. If you think you have a warrant in your name, call the court and find out for sure,” added Towne.
The Murphy Municipal Court is located at the Murphy Police Department, 206 North Murphy Road, and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Payments can be made with cash, credit card or certified check. Personal checks will not be accepted. Payments can also be made on the Municipal Court website at www.murphytx.org/105/Courts.
Persons who know or suspect they have outstanding warrants or unpaid fines, should contact the Murphy Municipal Court at 972-468-4250, opt 0, to begin the process of clearing their record. Experienced Court Clerks are available to answer questions and provide additional information.
