Police searching for two suspects in local store robbery

Shot fired from pistol adds higher level of caution

MURPHY (January 22, 2019) Murphy Police have stepped up their search for two suspects who robbed the 7-11 convenience store, 1031 North Murphy Road, on the evening of Jan. 20.  The store is on the corner of North Murphy Road and Betsy Lane.

Chief Arthur “Trey” Cotten says the two suspects are armed and must be considered dangerous as one of the two fired a handgun in the commission of the robbery.  No one was injured.

“Anytime a firearm is used in the commission of a crime, the seriousness of the crime increases exponentially,” he said.  “When that firearm is actually discharged, as in this case, our level of caution increases even further.”

The two suspects are described as Hispanic males.  The shooter was wearing a navy-blue hoodie sweatshirt and black jeans.  He utilized a grey-colored cloth to hide his face.  The weapon appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun.

The second suspect was dressed in all-black clothing, including a black hoodie-style sweatshirt, and utilized a red cloth to hide his face.

Following a demand for money, which the clerk on duty complied with, the two began exiting the store.  While fleeing through the doorway, the shooter fired his pistol in the general direction of the clerk.

A similar M-O was reported in Garland on Jan. 4 at the Homeboy’s store, 2510 Firewheel Parkway.  It is believed that both robberies were committed by the same individuals.

Persons with information should contact the Murphy Police Department at (972) 468-4200 or the local law enforcement office.

The two suspects are considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
