Moonlight Movies 2016 kick off on Friday, April 15
Earth Day activities to precede April 22 show
MURPHY (April 15, 2016) In honor of the Earth Day celebrations around the globe, and to bring local attention to the growing need to take better care of the planet, members of the Keep Murphy Beautiful organization will host an information booth at the Moonlight Movie on Friday, April 22, says Candy McQuiston, KMB Chair and Murphy Customer Service Manager.
“Part of what we want to share in commemoration of Earth Day is that we only have one home, and we all need to take part in caring for it,” she said. “If we don’t, we are only doing ourselves irreparable harm. We simply have no other place to go.”
The Moonlight Movie is set for Murphy Central Park’s amphitheater, on the grounds of the Municipal Complex, 206 North Murphy Road. The free movie presentation that evening is “Minions.” While the movie starts after dusk, there are plenty of activities that begin at 7 p.m.
Free parking is available at the various City Hall spots and the PSA parking area.
Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22 worldwide. Events of all kinds are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year.
“In addition to the handouts, giveaways and other materials that we plan to share with movie-goers, we will also show a brief featurette on Earth Day before the evening’s feature starts,” she said.
Tickets are not required, but those who plan to attend are asked to visit the Murphy Community Center, 205 North Murphy Road, and pick up free tickets. The tickets that are distributed provide officials with a count of potential attendees. That allows for an accurate estimate of expected participants, giving planners an idea of how much material to prepare.
In addition to the Earth Day handouts and information, other pre-movie activities will be provided by special events personnel. As customary, free popcorn and drinks will be available.
This year’s Moonlight Movies series includes movies on Fridays, April 15 (“Inside Out”), 22 (“Minions”) and 29 (“The Hunger Games, Mocking Jay Part 1”) as well as Friday, May 6 (The Hunger Games, Mocking Jay Part 2”).
