Trout Roundup asks participants to register online

MURPHY (February 12, 2016) In a continuing effort to improve the experience for all participants in the upcoming Rainbow Trout Roundup, officials are asking anyone planning to enter the contests to register online prior to arriving, says Kayla McFarland.

“Registration through the website helps in many ways,” she said. “It helps speed up the process the morning of the event and ensures everyone can get to their favorite spot so we can start on time.”

The annual Rainbow Trout Roundup is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the pond in front of City Hall, 206 North Murphy Road.

To register for the event, participants should visit: https://reconline.murphytx.org/wbwsc/webtrac.wsc/wbsearch.html?wbsi=c9511070-4b1b-74ba-e511-e2d0bc80c81e. Once there, enter “Rainbow Trout Roundup” in the Keyword Search box.

On-site registration will be available, however, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

All participants must check in at the registration tent, including those who registered online, before they can begin fishing. Participants up to six years of age will have the pond all to themselves from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Anglers from seven to 17 years of age may cast their lines from 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Adults are asked to refrain from fishing until after the contest ends at 11:30 a.m. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has suspended the fishing license rule until 4 p.m. on that day only. In addition, the City of Murphy is requesting that no fishing take place at the pond from Sunday, Feb. 14 until after the end of the Roundup.

Prizes and awards will go to the shortest trout, longest trout, and heaviest stringer of five rainbow trout in the following age categories: 0-6 years; 7-11 years; and 12-17 years.
In-N-Out Burgers will be serving a free lunch from 11 a.m. to noon.

“Our thanks go to our sponsors for helping out the Rainbow Trout Roundup,” said McFarland. Sponsors include the Murphy Community Development Corporation, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Walmart-Murphy, Cabela’s-Allen, The Learning Experience- Murphy, Farmers Electric, In-N-Out Burger, Chick-Fil-A Murphy, Raising Canes, and Starbucks-Murphy.
