Second annual Howl-O-Ween set for Saturday, Oct. 24
Chance to dress up like a pet could yield a prize
MURPHY (October 14, 2015) Sometimes, the connection between pet and pet owner is so deep and profound that a strong resemblance begins to emerge, says Special Events Coordinator Kayla McFarland.
“Other times, however, there is no resemblance whatsoever,” she said. “But, during the upcoming Howl-O-Ween event at the Murphy Community Center, pets and owners will have a chance to dress up in matching costumes and compete for prizes.”
The second annual Howl-O-Ween event is set for Saturday, Oct. 24 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the MCC, 205 North Murphy Road. The Murphy Animal Shelter will be open during the event as well, handling adoptions, accepting donations of pet supplies, and providing low cost microchipping of pets.
“Those pet owners who choose to participate in the costume contest can enter in any one of several categories,” she said.
The categories include “Best Pet and Owner Duo Costume,” “Most Unique Costume,” and “Funniest Costume.” Registration for the contest can be completed by visiting http://www.murphytx.org/608/Howl-O-Ween. Costume contest entrants should arrive at the staging area at 5:15 p.m. Entries in all three categories will parade in front of the judging panel, and award winners will be announced shortly afterward.
Other fun activities begin at 4 p.m. These include face painting, balloon artists as well as fun games and crafts for the kids. Trunk or Treat providers will be set up to hand out sweets and candy for participants.
Then, at 5 p.m., various food trucks will arrive, providing delicious food and drinks for purchase.
In keeping with the Halloween theme, the animated movie “Hotel Transylvania” will be shown at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium, accompanied by free popcorn and refreshments. A raffle will round out the day’s event.
Among the donation needs expressed by the Animal Shelter are cat or kitten food, treats and toys for dogs and cats, small beds for dogs or cats, kitten and puppy shampoo, collars of all sizes, grooming brushes, and leashes.
Trunk or Treat providers are still needed. Interested churches, groups, organizations, families or scout troops wishing to set up a Trunk or Treat station should contact the event planners via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
