Murphy administrative offices to close on Labor Day
Public safety personnel will remain at full strength
Administrative offices along with Municipal Court, the Murphy Community Center and Murphy Activity Center will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 to commemorate Labor Day, says City Manager James Fisher.
“Labor Day is a time-honored holiday that recognizes the valuable contributions of the American worker,” he said. “Taking a day to reflect on the dedication and service of employees in the public and private sectors, business owners and other workers is wholly appropriate.”
As a result of the holiday, trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day. Known as the “holiday shift” trucks will not operate on the holiday, shifting all pickup service to the day after the regular pickup day.
“Since Labor Day is always a Monday, the entire week’s schedule will be affected,” said Fisher.
Those who are on the Monday pickup route will have service on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Each subsequent day will be similarly delayed by one day, with Friday’s route moved to Saturday. Regular service resumes on Monday, Sept. 14.
While administrative offices will close on Labor Day, emergency personnel will be on full shifts. Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and 9-1-1 operators will be providing uninterrupted service, as they do on every holiday. Public Works crews will be on-call for emergencies only.
“If residents have need of emergency services on Labor Day, that service will be provided,” said Fisher. “And, while these first responders do not seek recognition, they nevertheless appreciate a smile, a friendly wave or a kind word.”
Offices will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
