Main Stage to present wide variety of entertainment
MURPHY (August 3, 2015) A pair of country western performances serve as bookends at the Main stage at this year’s Maize Days as the three intervening acts provide a medley of music and entertainment that will satisfy all tastes, says Kayla McFarland, Special Events Coordinator.
“We’ll begin and end the day with a pair of high-quality country western performances,” she said. “Between them, we’ll present three entertainment alternatives that will fill the day with an eclectic mix that will undoubtedly appeal to a wide range of tastes.”
Maize Days, the City of Murphy’s annual fall festival, is set for Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Municipal Complex, 206 North Murphy Road. The festivities open at 10 a.m. and continue until the 8 p.m. fireworks display concludes the day.
Kicking off the event from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. is local favorite “Hard Country.” The band’s original music is rock-tinged country music with a resemblance to Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly and Randy Rogers Band. The band combines a rock and blues beat with a fresh blend of vocal harmonies and acoustic and electric guitar. Many of their songs are based on real-world struggles that audiences can readily relate to.
At noon, “Live 80” hits the stage for their 90-minute set. More than just a cover band, “Live 80” provides the ultimate 80s experience. Dallas’ premier 80s show band, the band expertly plays everyone’s favorite 80s hits from new wave to pop to dance to hair metal and everything in between.
The “Vic Duncan Band” hits the stage at 2 p.m. and plays until 3:30 p.m. Duncan is a locally-based guitarist, singer/songwriter/entertainer. The versatile performer entertains audiences as a solo, with a duo partner or with his four-piece band. His repertoire includes memorable classics from the last 50 years, as well as original songs that speak to virtually every generation.
Opening for the evening’s headliner is the “Rhythm and Beards Band” from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Described as Texas Soul, the band combines driving rhythm, shredding riffs, funky tones and soulful lyrics melded into a unique sound that captivates any audience. Energy, power, fun, and excitement are all guaranteed during this performance. Audience members find it hard to resist dancing, laughing, and even cheering when the band ignites the stage.
And, headlining the Main Stage is Cory Morrow from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. An Austin legend, by way of Lubbock and his native Houston, Morrow has been a consistent fixture on the Texas Country scene, establishing himself as a pioneer in the growth of the state’s brand of country music. Actively touring with a new band, and with a renewed outlook on his life and career, Morrow is set to release the latest volume of Red Dirt poetry in his musical tapestry.
"We’re fairly certain that everyone will find something they like throughout the day’s performances,” said McFarland. “Whether it’s the comfort of old familiar songs or the edginess of a new and different sound, the Main Stage will definitely provide it.”
