Murphy touted by independent sites as best and safest
Websites conducted independent review for livability and safety

Fresh on the heels of being named the best suburb in Collin County by the Niche website, another website, SafeWise, has deemed Murphy as the safest city in Texas, according to City Manager James Fisher.

“These independent sources, using their own criteria, have placed Murphy at the top of their lists,” he said. “While we’ve known all along the kind of community we live in, it’s refreshing and reaffirming to see others outside of Murphy recognize it.”

Niche, a website devoted to urban and suburban living, ranks suburbs based on livability using grades for weather, safety, schools, access to activities, jobs, housing, and transportation. A high ranking indicates that a suburb offers a high quality of life to its residents.

“Lots of factors play into this ranking, and the Niche folks conducted their analysis independent of our input,” he said. “Based on their findings, Murphy topped the list in Collin County, which is quite a feat when considering the other cities and towns in the local area.”

At the same time, the SafeWise website released its “50 Safest Cities in Texas” report this month. To compile this report, SafeWise used the most recent FBI crime data from 2013 to analyze and rank these cities, which all have a minimum population of 10,000 people. In addition to declaring Murphy the safest city in Texas, the website also developed the 100 Safest Cities in America list and placed Murphy at number 93. No other Texas city made the website’s top 100 list.

“As with the Niche report, the SafeWise ranking was conducted impendent of any input from the City of Murphy,” said Fisher. “These independent statewide standings validate the work and pride that residents have in their city. The leadership at the City Council level and the dedication of City employees also play heavily in these results.”

Murphy consistently ranks in the top ten in the annual Best Suburbs ranking in D Magazine, and in 2014, Money Magazine ranked Murphy as the 27th Best Place to Live in America for small cities.
