Sounds at Sundown return to Murphy’s Central Park
MURPHY (May 21, 2015) Three of the area’s most popular bands will make appearances at the annual Sounds at Sundown Concert series next month, says Kayla McFarland, Special Events Coordinator.
“For those who love listening to great music at a great venue, the Sounds at Sundown series is the place to be,” she said. “We’re presenting three very popular bands, each with its own distinctive style and personality.”
Sounds at Sundown, the yearly concert series that has developed a strong following in Murphy, kicks off on Friday, June 12 and continues on Friday, June 19 and Friday, June 26. The concerts are held at the acoustically-engineered Central Park amphitheater, 550 North Murphy Road. Pre-concert attractions on June 12 and 26 begin at 7 p.m. with music starting at 8 p.m. On June 19, the concert and the activities both start at 6 p.m.
The year’s initial concert features Petty Theft, a Tom Petty tribute band that has been entertaining audiences in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for over a decade. The band is led by local radio personality Mike Rhyner of KTCK, The Ticket.
On June 19, Northern National takes the amphitheater stage, presenting their interpretation of pop, folk and rock music in the general style of the Dave Matthews Band. The band has released its premiere album “Young & in Love” to enthusiastic reviews. Northern National will open their set at 6 p.m.
Rounding out the series is perennial favorite Emerald City Band on June 26. Emerald City Band is a local favorite and consistently draws a very animated and appreciative audience. Their showband presentation is filled with the glitz and glamour of a Las Vegas review.
The free Sounds at Sundown series is sponsored by PDQ, with associate sponsorship by McKinney Buick GMC. Concerts are made possible by the Murphy Community Development Corporation.
In addition to the musical entertainment, a number of eateries will be offering their specialties for purchase. PDQ will be onsite with chicken tenders and all the fixings. South Fork Texas will have their tasty brisket tacos for sale and SU Amazing Foods will have their scrumptious hamburgers and hot dogs. Mell’s Grill will have their signature BBQ for sale and Kona Ice will have everyone’s favorite flavored shaved ice. An ATM will be on site.
“The concert series is one of our most popular events, and this year should be no exception,” said McFarland. “The lineup for each of the three nights is sure to please even the most discerning musical tastes.”
While the amphitheater provides terraced seating, attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and stadium seats. Insect repellant is also highly encouraged. “The concerts are a great way to join with family and friends for a great dinner and entertainment experience at very little cost,” she added. Ample parking is available at the eastern lots of the City Hall complex.
