Moonlight Movies present several Oscar winners
Three of the four movies scheduled in May have won an Academy Award
The ever-popular Moonlight Movies are coming back for their seventh season thanks to perennial sponsor, the Murphy Community Development Corporation, and new sponsor McKinney Buick GMC, says Special Events Coordinator Kayla McFarland.
“This is our first event series for 2015,” she said. “And, it’s great to start the year off with the support of the MCDC, which has been with us from the beginning, and McKinney Buick GMC, which joined our family of sponsors this year.”
Moonlight Movies, scheduled for the first four Fridays in May, begin on May 1 with Academy Award winner “Finding Nemo.” Then, on May 8, it’s “The Lego Movie,” which was nominated for an Academy Award for music. On May 15, the series continues with “Hook,” a movie that won several Oscars, and it ends on May 22 with Academy Award winner “Big Hero 6.”
All four highly-rated movies will be shown at the uniquely-designed amphitheater at Murphy Central Park, 550 North Murphy Road. While the amphitheater has terraced seating, allowing for excellent sight lines, patrons are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and stadium seats to increase their comfort.
“We’re extremely excited about showing the movies at the amphitheater, since it has become a favorite for practically everyone,” said McFarland. “Its design and acoustics are perfect for this kind of presentation.”
While the movies are free, attendees are asked to stop by the Murphy Community Center, 205 North Murphy Road, on the Monday before each movie to pick up movie tickets. Attached to each movie ticket is a discount coupon for a Kona Ice.
Giveaways, popcorn, and drinks will begin at 7:15 p.m. on each of the show nights. Attendees are highly encouraged to arrive early and claim their seats. Free, secured parking will be available at the various parking lots surrounding City Hall, including the lot facing the PSA building.
More information on the movie presentations is available by calling the Murphy Community Center at 972-468-4444 or by sending an e-mail message to events@murphytx.org.
“We are now into our seventh year of Moonlight Movies, which means that the series is older than many of the youngsters who will be watching the movies,” said McFarland. “We hope that everyone enjoys watching the films and the atmosphere as much as we enjoy putting it on.”
