Volunteers sought for Great American Clean-up day
Annual event set for Saturday, April 18
Volunteers are being recruited for Murphy’s annual Great American Clean-up event, scheduled for Saturday, April 18, says Customer Service Manager Candy McQuiston.
“This is our annual community clean-up campaign,” she said. “We’re asking for volunteers to come and help us pick up litter and beautify Murphy.”
McQuiston is the chairperson of the Murphy Green Team, an interdepartmental employee action committee dedicated to maintaining a clean and sustainable environment within the City.
Held every spring in conjunction with the Clean & Green recycling event, the Great American Clean-up is a national program that seeks to keep cities, towns and municipalities clean and litter-free.
Volunteers will gather at Murphy Central Park on Saturday, April 18 at 9 a.m. and fan out to specific areas of town, picking up trash and identifying items of trash that require later pickup because of size.
The first 100 volunteers will receive a free commemorative T-shirt. There are a limited number of the various shirt sizes, although the City cannot guarantee that each volunteer will receive the appropriate size.
“In addition to the T-shirt for the first 100 volunteers, all volunteers will be treated to lunch at the end of the shift,” added McQuiston.
