Pair of intersections to close temporarily along NMR

Glen Ridge Dr. and Spring Ridge Dr. affected, weather permitting

MURPHY (March 5, 2015) In order to complete the reconstruction of the southbound lanes of North Murphy Road, the contractor working on the project will close the intersections of Spring Ridge and Glen Ridge temporarily, says City Manager James Fisher.

“We are nearing the conclusion of this important project,” he said. “The completion of the southbound lanes are dependent on the reconstruction of these highly-traveled intersections. While the next few days may present some inconveniences, the end product will be worth putting up with some minor difficulties.”

Depending on the weather, the contractor, Lone Star Civil Construction, will close the intersection of North Murphy Road and Glen Ridge Drive on the morning of Saturday, March 7. Crews will then work on the intersection to tie it into the concrete lanes on either side of the intersection. Plans call for the intersection to reopen sometime Monday, March 9.

Then, the crews will move to Spring Ridge Drive and close it on Monday, March 9. Again, workers will reconstruct the intersection with concrete so that it meshes seamlessly with the finished lanes on the north and south ends of the intersection. Work on the Spring Ridge Drive intersection should be concluded on Wednesday, March 11.

“All of this depends on the weather, since concrete work cannot be completed during rain events,” said Fisher.

For proper curing, concrete must maintain a precise amount of moisture. The hardening of concrete is not a drying process, but a chemical process occurring between the Portland cement and the water mixture.

Should the weather allow the work to be completed as planned at these two intersections, drivers will be required to find alternate routes to access North Murphy Road.
