MURPHY (November 18, 2014) Official word has reached Murphy that Santa Claus has confirmed his arrival on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. at the Municipal Complex for Christmas in the Park, says Kayla McFarland, Recreation Services Coordinator.

“Until we get that official notification on North Pole letterhead, we’re on pins and needles,” she said. “Now that we have the confirmation, we can rest easy knowing that the star of our show will be here.” A wink and a smile accompanied the confirmation.

Christmas in the Park is set for Thursday, Dec. 4 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. staged on the lawn facing the entry of City Hall, 206 North Murphy Road. The annual event is a presentation of the Murphy Community Development Corporation.

“Admission to the event is free, although there will be food and craft items for purchase,” she added. “Parking is available in the lots surrounding the lawn, as well as at Kimbrough Stadium with complimentary shuttles to and from the parking area.”

At 6:30 p.m., Mayor Eric Barna will share his thoughts on the Christmas season and light the community Christmas tree, a tradition that continues to captivate the young and old every year.

“In addition to all of the usual activities, we will bring back the marshmallow roasting and live reindeer,” she added. “All sorts of food will be available and hot drinks will be provided. Our popular craft fair may have the perfect gift you’re seeking for that hard-to-please friend or relative. And, the Rad Hatter promises to crown participants with unique toppers.”

An ATM will be on site as most food and craft vendors will only accept cash.
“We can still use volunteers,” she said. “As a reward, we will provide pizza from Marco’s Pizza to those who give us a hand that evening.” Volunteers may sign up at www.murphytx.org.

Choirs from a number of schools will provide seasonal entertainment throughout the evening.
