Murphy city offices to close end of Thanksgiving week
Thursday and Friday see shift in trash collection service
MURPHY (November 12, 2014) Holiday trash and recycling collection in Murphy will shift only on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28, with the first part of that week remaining unaffected, says Candy McQuiston, Customer Service Manager.
“Our contract with Progressive Waste Solutions includes the holiday shift,” she said. “The shift only applies to the specific holiday and any collection days after it.”
In the case of Thanksgiving, which always falls on a Thursday, there is no service on that day. Customers who have normal Thursday pickup service will be serviced on Friday, Nov. 28. Those residents on regular Friday pickup will also experience a shift in the pickup schedule. Pickup for regular Friday routes will occur on Saturday, Nov. 29.
“The process works the same for all holidays,” added McQuiston. “If the holiday occurs on a Monday, all routes during that week shift over one day, including Friday. If, however, the holiday falls on a Friday, only that day will shift.”
Administrative offices, Municipal Courts, the Murphy Community Center and the Animal Shelter will close on Thanksgiving Day and the day after, reopening on Monday, Dec. 1.
Emergency and public safety departments, including the 9-1-1 dispatch office, will be fully staffed.
