[ARCHIVED] Update on West Nile positive locations

Additional positive tests for West Nile in Murphy

MURPHY, Texas (June 27, 2024) - The City of Murphy, in cooperation with the Texas Department of State Health Services, performs routine tests for West Nile by collecting mosquitos and sending them for evaluation.

Until now in 2024 there has only been one pool (June 14th on Lonesome Dove Trail) that tested positive for West Nile, however, a second pool tested positive in the creek bed of Lonesome Dove Trail (June 21st), and one along Shelby Trace (June 21st), making a total of three for 2024.

There has been a delay in spraying, due to a supply issue, however, spraying of these areas will take place beginning at 9am on Friday, June 28, 2024.

The best way to prevent West Nile is to protect yourself from mosquito bites. Use insect repellent, wear long-sleeved shirts and pants, treat clothing and gear, and take steps to control mosquitoes indoors and outdoors.

Residents who may suspect being infected should immediately report it to their doctor or medical facility.

Spraying in these areas will begin at 9am, Friday, June 28, 2024.

The sidewalks in these areas will be closed for 24 hours following spraying.
