Building Inspection

Our Mission

The mission of the Building Inspection Division is to ensure the safety and welfare of the general public by enforcing building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical code regulations within the City of Murphy.

Permits

Permits ensure that the proposed construction complies with zoning and adopted building codes. The permits and inspections process also helps ensure safe construction with sound materials. Applications must be submitted and permits issued before beginning work.  Once construction has begun, it is your responsibility to schedule the required inspections as indicated by the Building Inspection Division.  The permit must be posted on the job site throughout the construction process.

Inspection Requests

Cancellation Policy

  • To cancel an inspection, you must call 972-468-4100 before 9:00 a.m. and speak to a live person.
  • Voicemail cancellations will not be accepted.
  • Failed inspections may result in additional fees added to the permit.

Same-Day Inspections/Re-Inspections

  • Subject to additional fees and inspector availability.
  • Includes inspections requested after the 2:00 p.m. cutoff.
  • Payment must be made before the request, and you must contact Customer Service to confirm availability.

Combination Inspections

The following inspections are processed as combination inspections and should be scheduled together:

  • Frame (Seconds Inspection) – Frame, electric rough, mechanical rough, and plumbing top out
  • Electric meter and Gas meter
  • Ceiling – Electric ceiling, mechanical ceiling, and plumbing ceiling
  • Finals – Electric final, mechanical final, plumbing final, and building final

Important Notes

  • The site is assumed to be ready for inspection at the time of your request, unless otherwise noted.
  • Please specify if you are requesting a re-inspection.
  • Inspections will not be made when work is in progress.
  • The inspection request form is accessible 24 hours a day.
