This project will replace 2,000 water meters across the City.
The City is conducting outreach through multiple media channels to ensure residents are well-informed. This includes social media, press announcements, and mailers. If your address is selected, you will receive a mailed postcard detailing the change-out process.
You will be notified in person the day your water meter is replaced, or Professional Meter Services, Inc., will leave a door hanger to let you know that your water meter was replaced.
This group of water meters were specifically selected for replacement based on age and consumption, and the project was quoted to only replace these units. You may call or email the Public Services Department to have you meter audited to determine if it needs replaced.
No, it simply means the water meter is not properly recording and reporting water consumption, which is why the City is conducting this replacement.
The City thoroughly monitors its water meter system and conducts regular audits of its water meters to make sure they are operating and reporting properly. We have compiled a catalogue of units to replace based on their age and consumption.
The City must replace the water meter as part of an effort to eliminate wasted, leaked, or unrecorded water consumption. The cost of unrecorded water consumption, through any means, is shared by every customer, diminishing the efficiency of the system, and unnecessarily raising the cost of water to every customer.
It could. The City is working to replace aging water meters or water meters that are not reporting consumption properly. Accurate reporting could potentially bring changes to your billing.
No, this is a service the City provides to its residents.
A representative from Professional Meter Services, Inc., will first knock on the door to let you know they are about to replace your water meter. They will briefly turn off your water to quickly conduct the change-out.
Your water should be off for approximately twenty minutes or less.
If there is no response to the door knock, the representative will check your water meter to see if it is running (i.e. water is being used). If it is running, they will return later to complete the replacement. If it is not running (i.e. water is not being used), they will replace the water meter and leave a notice on your door.
Professional Meter Services will work to replace the selected water meters as quickly as possible. Due to this pace and the scale of the project both in size and time, we cannot guarantee or estimate a specific work schedule.
