Water Main Testing

Img with pressure gauge provides link to pressure test info.

The periodic testing of water main lines throughout Murphy will be conducted during February, taking advantage of the period during which residents are least likely to have their irrigation schedule interrupted.

Purpose of the testing is to ensure the integrity of the lines carrying water through the City’s distribution system, and to identify specific areas where repair or replacement may be necessary.

While the isolation/pressure testing is under the direction of Trenchless Leak Detection, a third-party contractor, personnel from the City of Murphy Public Works Department will accompany the contract personnel.  All personnel will be in uniform and will carry proper identification.

Testing will occur in all neighborhoods and will likely take most of the month of February.  Lines undergoing the testing will be isolated, meaning that water will not be available to residents served by that line for a maximum period of one hour.  A 30-minute notice will be provided to affected residents prior to the temporary shut-off.

Should the lines prove to be satisfactory, no further action will occur, and water service will be fully restored.  Conversely, should the line require maintenance or repair, notice will be provided to residents including details on service interruptions.

The testing is a necessary part of the water line maintenance, designed to ensure the highest level of service to customers.  Knowing the condition of the lines before a major break happens can lessen the impact of the repair.

Information on the project is available by contacting Public Services Executive Administrative Assistant Bryce Gullatt at (972) 468-4378 or via email at bgullatt@murphytx.org.
