Council approves three contracts in CIP bond program

First three contracts receive nod, work to begin soon

MURPHY (February 22, 2018) Following approval by the Murphy City Council of the first three contracts related to the capital improvement projects bond program approved by voters last November, residents may begin seeing construction-related activity soon.

“Activity will be light to moderate at the beginning,” says Public Services Director Tim Rogers.  “We plan to send letters to those homes that are directly and indirectly affected by the work, giving them information on what to expect.  We also plan to hand-deliver notices to affected homes when the work becomes more rigorous.”

Rogers and his department’s personnel have overall responsibility for ensuring the contacts are fulfilled satisfactorily, even though the actual work will be completed by contractors employing non-city workers.  Similarly, subcontractors retained by the main contractors will employ their own crews and equipment.

“The letters and notices we provide will include our contact information as well as the names and contact information for the main contractors, allowing residents to verify the identity of the workers, should they have a question,” said Rogers.  “Nevertheless, we will always be available for any questions or concerns that residents may have.  They can always contact us with their questions.”

A comprehensive list of projects and their status will be constantly available on www.murphytx.org.  The website will be updated when a project moves from one major phase to the next, until the project is complete.

This week’s actions by Council included approval of contracts for drainage work and street panels in the Travis Estates area.  This includes work on Skyline Drive, Summer Place, Horizon Drive and Horizon Court.

Also approved was the contract for the reconstruction of North Maxwell Creek Road from Tom Clevenger Road to the Kansas City Southern Railway lines.  This project includes reconstruction work adjacent to a portion of Central Park.

The third contract includes the Water’s Edge Park drainage work, the construction of a right turn lane at South Murphy Road and FM 544, the McWhirter Road drainage project, and the Timbers Addition drainage project.

Major projects approved by voters in the capital improvement bond program will be initiated by formal groundbreakings or other dirt-turning ceremonies, determined by their size and scope.  The public is cordially invited to participate in these community events.  Notices of these events will be extensively communicated and will appear on the Murphy website.
