Allen Barnes

Allen Barnes is proudly serving as Murphy’s Interim City Manager. Barnes brings more than 45 years’ experience in Public Service. After a 20 career in Law Enforcement, including 13 years at the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, he served 25 years as a City Manager in five Texas cities. He retired in May 2022 from the City of Stephenville. 

Barnes holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master of Public Affairs degree, both from the University of Texas at Dallas. He received his Certified Public Manager designation from Texas State University. He is also a retired Credentialed Manager through the International City/County Managers Association (ICMA). The ICMA honored Barnes’ service by naming him a lifetime Member of the organization. The Texas City Managers Association also named him a Lifetime Member upon his retirement. 

Barnes and his best friend, Brenda, have been married for over 35 years. They have five adult sons and daughters in law as well as ten grandchildren. They are also the proud parents of two German Shepherd Dogs, Stormie age 7 and Trooper age 5. Barnes is active in the Stephenville community serving of the Planning and Zoning Commission until recently. He is also Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee for his church. His hobbies are woodworking and trying to keep his 1963 Chevrolet Corvair running.
