Planning & Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Department provides development services that address long-range and short-range planning and development within the City of Murphy.

Note: Applications are not considered complete until all required information is submitted for approval and all review questions satisfactorily answered by applicant.


The Planning & Zoning Commission meets on the fourth Monday each month at 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers, City Hall; 206 North Murphy Road, Murphy, Texas.

Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council meetings are subject to change or cancellation at the discretion of the Development staff, the Planning & Zoning Commission and the City Council and other considerations.  

Development Review Committee Meetings

DRC meetings are held every Wednesday at 2:00 pm.  Please call the Community Development Department in advance to make an appointment.

 All Development applications are heard by both the Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission and City Council except for most final plats which go directly before City Council. 

Application submittal deadlines are at 3:00 pm on the date listed. 

Staff comments after submittal will be provided via written response. Meetings related to DRC review will be scheduled at the discretion of Murphy staff or at the applicant's request. Meetings (when held) are held at Murphy City Hall, 206 N Murphy Road, Murphy, Texas 75094.

All DRC comments must be addressed in a prompt manner in order for the application to remain on track. A written response, referencing numbered staff comments, and original mark-ups must accompany the plan resubmittal. Submission of zoning related applications by a particular submittal date does not guarantee automatic scheduling for a specific P&Z Commission meeting date. 

P&Z and City Council meetings are subject to cancellation at the discretion of the P&Z Commission and City Council. 

2021 Submittal Deadlines and Timeline for Platting Related Applications
Construction or Preliminary Plats, Amended or Minor Plats, Vacation of Plat, *Final Plats

Applications will only be accepted on the exact dates listed below, which are the days which fall four weeks prior to the respective Planning & Zoning Commission regularly scheduled meeting. *Final Plats go directly to City Council in most cases, and should be submitted to the City on those days which are four weeks prior to the respective City Council Meeting date listed to the right.
